Title: Was this the outcome we wanted?
Post by: Duckox on September 25, 2013, 01:50:33 pm
So... I've been thinking a lot lately. Has our community been torn apart? I believe so.

The pvp server was a lovely place to be, with the traditional pvp using swords, axes and bows. We had Teams, gymleader ranks, stats and badges to make our pvp skill stand out. I hate to say it, but I think those days are gone.

I blame the Pixelmon Server.

A number of you are likely to disagree, but really think. Somewhere along the line, we were torn apart. This forum is the only thing keeping us together. You may not want to hear this, but be honest. Pixelmon has gotten really boring, and we can't return to our old server because we've moved on.

I'm not saying that the new server is to blame for those who have recently left, because they have school and stuff. What I'm saying is that it's only a matter of time before the remaining number of us go our separate ways.

Pixelmon was supposed to be a gift, but after a few weeks of excitement, we should be able to admit that it isn't going to ever replace the pvp server.

"Replace? What an odd word to use, considering the pvp server still exists." It still exists on the outside, but it really doesn't on the inside.

Those who couldn't download Pixelmon have been swept away be the loneliness of the empty pvp server. There are inbetweeners, like me who only go on to stop yourself timing out from your house, or log on hoping desperately for a familiar face.

I would like to hear everyone's opinion on this. If the admins feel this is the wrong section to put this in, move it. I couldn't really put this in the pvp server or pixelmon section specifically because this is to do with both, and general discussion is for unrelated things.

The admins who don't already hate me are going to hate me when they read this:
The golden days of the pokemon server are gone.

Please be honest and agree with me. Deep inside you know I'm right. I think you may be to afraid to admit it. It is only a matter of time before this server is shut down.

agreed. ever since the pixelmon server went up, the pvp server kinda died. I miss the days we had wars at spawn but now you be lucky to have more then 5 people on. I still see some of the people who still come on but they never stay on long or just go away and get kicked by console and never come back on cause the server did not have the flare it did when I first joined. I suggest we get one day where we try and get everyone to come back on and hopefully that might bring back some of former members of the server. kinda of like a group gathering or something. if this works they might start coming back and maybe it will not be like the golden days but make it so it's a fun place to be rather then a random pvp server with no one on it.

Tl;dr: Pixelmon server tore us apart and the good old days are gone.

or maybe it's because it's fall and a lot of people have started school and are sort of caught up with schoolwork?

I can't always get on because i have school problems. So its not really because of the pixelmon server the servers(The pixelmon and the Pvp servers) can get pretty busy during the weekends because thats when they get time to relax.

If you read what I said, I didn't say the Pixelmon server was responsible for the leaves, I said it will be responsible for the future leaves.

The admins who don't already hate me are going to hate me when they read this:
The golden days of the pokemon server are gone.

Just saying, for a lot of the 'original' players of the server, the golden days were back n 2011, for me the golden days were early 2012. Its all dependant on when you joined.

Take thort for example (extreme case). The server is completely different now than when he played. It probably changed a lot since then to when I joined.

Point being, server is doing fine, its in a bit of an inactive stage as it gets from time to time. It won't be shut down, not until Minecraft loses popularity at the very least.

Pixelmon may have 'torn' the community a bit, but for now the real 'culprit' is time.

I think he's kinda right. I almost left because I started playing on the Pixelmon server and now I feel like I don't want to play on either server now.

And for what reason?

And for what reason?
Just got bored of it.  Switching to Pixelmon made me want to play with the mod and because I played with it on for so long I started to not the PvP server and then I got bored of THAT server and I just wish the Pixelmon server never came out.

That was confusing, but simple solution, stop playing Pixelmon?

Let me just make a point here. There are a lot of people who want to leave but feel like they shouldn't because they love us. Admins hate those who make loads of comments about threatening to quit and not quitting. I think if the emptiness continues, I'll be leaving myself.
(Don't moan, it isn't in a new topic.)

That's not what I meant? I have stopped playing the Pixelmon server. ( Kinda ) When the Pixelmon server came out, everyone went on there, and so did I. I began to neglect the PvP server for a bit. I loved the Pixelmon server so much. Then when it became unpopular as much as it was when it started, I kept looking on the PvP server seeing it was only noobs who couldn't stand a chance against me.  I began to slowly lose hope. Now I just can't bare to go on either server, neither of them are a challenge for me anymore.

Zob yes there are noobs but the noobs may be your only hope to rebuilding the Pvp server. If everyone really wants i could convince my friend to start a series on youtube for were not that popular yet but were getting there slowly

Though I'm more in agreeance with Tene's point, I feel there was one thing that cut the PvP server's popularity. That would be the money penalty when you died. I feel that because of it no one wanted to engage in PvP anymore and we haven't had any wars since. The whole point of the PvP server was to PvP but no one wants to do it at risk of loosing all their money. I'm not sure if it's like this for everyone but definitly for me.
I think that if we took away the penalty then users would be more inclined to PvP again and realise the fun they once had.

Heres a solution, a complete reset. That way people have a reason to play again.

I dont feel like earning all my stats for a third time. So I Neglect this.

Why? I dont feel the need to have a whole server reset after 2+ Years of playing on this server. This is and still will be the only server I really hang on and what about the people who think restarting is a bad idea? I mean if it had a vote of doing it I really wouldn't find it fair if they said yes. I worked and played hard for my stats and im sure other people would think the same.

It may bring people back but it'll piss people off to and I agree with Duck. Pixelmon has got boring it was boring to me in the first couple mins of playing it (due to the cause I cant get use to other servers). I think we should stick to catching pokemon on our Dsi's and 3ds's.
Title: Re: Was this the outcome we wanted?
Post by: synderfin on September 26, 2013, 11:30:08 pm
I would really really not like to have a reset. I've spent countless months training stats but primarily saving up money to spend it on the new map. A reset would make all of that a waste and make many of the new houses too expensive for people to buy.

Why not add CustomNPCs? That's a good mod plus it comes with some cool stuff you can do. You could add quests and stuff.

1. What's that got to do with pokemon?
2. That will require everyone downloading it and we will lose lots of new members.

1. I've seen tons of Pixelmon servers with CustomNPCs. They're really popular.
2. So? It's still a great mod.

I gotta say I custom NPC's would be A good idea I would be down with that a complete reset would probably piss to many people off and this sounds like it could be interesting.

Quests can be added with ModDamage. Its just a matter of working out what those quests would be. Also, define exactly what custom npcs would add to the server such that it is still considered pokemon.

Well, for example, in the mod you can get crystals of different elements. This could say who the leader is, their stats and what badge they give.

You could add random NPCs around the map where you could buy materials such as iron. Since the only way to buy things with the Custom NPCs is through coins, you could change the currency to the mod coins. Since you can have custom skins, you could have Pokemon telling you info. Such as a Charizard could be outside Cinnabar saying something like " Char! Welcome to Cinnabar island! " Or something like that. You get the picture.

Not much use about stats seeing as the level caps are on a sign outside the gym, as well as the leader.

NPCs would only be used in shops if thats the purpose, and Charizard can't talk.

Also, how many people would install another mod just to play. Its annoying enough installing one mod.

Title: Re: Was this the outcome we wanted?

Because installing more mods makes people want to join. The reason we were getting so many people at the start was because all that was needed to join was Forge and Pixelmon, adding more mods makes it more annoying to join and play.

You seriously haven't watched any of the Pokemon Moives

According from Bulbapedia:

Talking PokémonAlthough every Pokémon in the anime can understand human speech, very few can talk, although many legendary Pokémon (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Legendary_Pok%C3%A9mon) can. In most cases though, talking Pokémon speak through telepathy.Meowth (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Meowth_(Team_Rocket)) is the most famous talking Pokémon, and the one that makes the most appearances. His clone in Mewtwo Strikes Back (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/M01) and Mewtwo Returns (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mewtwo_Returns), however, cannot speak, the reason being Meowth wasn't born knowing how to speak human language: he learned how to speak human language.

As I said, just an example

I've seen the first 12, and that wasn't a very good example.

On other topics, I've noticed how everyone on my vanilla server has generally had a good time, starting from scratch with no outside help. It'd be good to see this again, possibly with the map change.

You are right in that it stopped a lot of our old players and now both the servers are full of noobs.
I've been trying to think of solutions, but to be honest, I feel like the non-noob county has just stopped the Pokemon addiction. We could get dozens of players on either server with some simple advertising, but I want to wait until winter vacation so it isn't wasted.

As for the older players, it's up to y'all to figure out what you want. Shark proposed removing the death penalty, a viable solution. Tene proposed a complete reset, which has been discussed countless times. An idea I just thought of is to remove donor perks splitting on both servers; make people commit to one which will make them more likely to choose to stay on one rather than splitting their attentions.

I felt like noone listened to me lol.

I did, and I know that you don't want to re-earn your status on the server, but what does your status mean when there is no one to challenge it, no one to come near you in financial strength, no one to know your skill with archery, no one to remember your leadership of cinnabar? A bunch of newbies and your memories are all that tie your history here, so what's the point of having it? Rejoin the newbies and show them how to succeed instead of being some unattainable beacon of success that they can never imagine reaching. You're at the far end of the noob-pro spectrum with no in between players to bridge the gap, do you really enjoy that?

Why not add CustomNPCs? That's a good mod plus it comes with some cool stuff you can do. You could add quests and stuff.

Adding a mod to one server will not help the issue of the servers splitting their attentions and dividing the community in half, causing boredom and leavers. It will only make one possibly (POSSIBLY) more attractive for a short time before it gets boring again.
It also requires learning a brand new scripting language, something I know I don't have time for.

MORAL OF THE STORY: don't complain about the problem, find solutions.

Im going to be helping advertise the server here me and my friend are going to be doing videos on it with our adventure the only problem we are having is getting gym leaders on.  Also we do need to listen to what 1ce said we do need to stop just complaining I mean Duck have you attempted to do anything to help the situation at hand Lucas you to? I noticed this as well with it I do hate complaining about the servers when I haven't done anything really to help it. I mean now im attempting to help it at least.

This was put real nicely  :) . Stats are stats, numbers, detailing your achievements, strength, skill. But they are also meaningless in the way that in any given moment, without notice, they can be gone, wiped, forgotten. It does take valuable time and effort to obtain, but as you all know, nothing lasts forever. I for one would like a stat reset, or rather complete reset. A lot of us back in the day we basically got our stats cheating. The actions the older players have done is what made the server how it is today. Having our acro trainers, mob rooms, party boosting, the rules that are on the server were added as the community grew. Some of us bought our stats which can't be done now (right?). I never really liked the idea of buying stats, makes the server feel like a f2p game, in the sense of microtransactions = win. But honestly, you can't brush off the idea of a reset just because you don't want to lose your stats. Its rather selfish in my opinion.

The server will without a doubt shut down, but as it currently stands, it's in good health. Getting new players daily, people play on it every day, it's the only server of it's kind AFAIK, and there's VERY little to almost no advertisement (i think, not sure). If this server was advertised on sites like PlanetMinecraft or whatever place with a decent amount of Minecraft traffic, the server would most likely get over 100 users daily. Which is both really nice and not bad but it would be annoying.     We have a group of old players, new players, and inbetweeners. With a reset we can ALL be, in essence, the new players. I'm not trying to get a reset going on as fast as possible, but while reading the comments I saw a lot of no's without a why other than oh no my stats D:. With a reset though, there should be consistency. I'm pretty sure the admins know what works and what doesn't, so it would be a smooth ride.

I had a lot in my head, if something isn't clear then let me know :p .

I think your truly right if it does help bring the server back we might want to really consider a reset. I mean I will miss my house and if it affects the pixelmon server ill miss my pokemon poor Umbreon. Though it is a price some of us are willing to pay for the better good of the server. I will be doing my best to advertise the servers. Also all of Duck's options for the poll are pretty much one sided ony 2 options aren't and ones saying they don't want to get involved it the matter.

Mmm yes, and about resets, a lot of servers reset multiple times a year, Pokeserver has been going on for over 2 years now with the only resets being due to rollbacks...

The pixelmon server has no need for a reset AFAIK. It's almost brand new, it came out a month ago or two right?

The only thing negative that would come from a reset is a bunch of rage quitters and bashing, nothing else.

This should REALLY piss of any admin. Pokemobs and Pixelmon were always begged for, new players always joined asking "how do I get my pokemon?", and now that you actually CAN get pokemon everyone, or mostly everyone is pissed or complaining that the pixelmon server "ruined everything". I don't think I'd want to stay active if everything I worked hard for was wiped. It takes a long time to train stats or gather resources. While I've watched friends go inactive or quit, one of the only things keeping me is knowing how much time I've spent building myself up here, and how stupid it'd be to waste it all. I understand not being selfish, and I'm all for a reset if it'll help the server, but there are going to be some people who won't bother coming back to rebuild.

Those are the people who most likely only ever cared about their "status" on the server and who can't accept change. Leaves room for other qualified people though ;).

1 word: AGREED  :(

Ever since the pixelmon server came up and I couldn't get it, I was really sad. And, once it came up, pretty much everyone left. Now only new people that stay are the ones on the server. I miss everyone in the old days when there were wars at spawn and the Mods and Admins talking about random stuff. I miss journeying with my friends on there that I never see now. Yes, I may have been busy with school, horses, horses on singleplayer, but I still miss them. Sometimes when I would check to see who is on, there is either no one on or just 2 new people that are somewhere random in the map. I seriously wish we could all get back together again. Please  :eyes: . I just really miss everything... because no one is on, i've been playing on a different server, but that still got a little boring. Please do something about this  . I know everyone has been mad about what people say and they say that its stupid (Example:         "Wat u guyses say is stupid! This server is fine!") Not really. So, lets just come back to the server and relive the old days  :grouphug: . And this will be my mood:  :squee:  :D . But if we can't...then I will be liek:  :-\  :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: :lazor: (lol). I just wish we could have like a server reunion or something like that. Please.. PLEASE... PWEASE                           .

Of course the golden days are long gone. A lot of people, including me, left a long time ago.
I don't know how much pixelmon changed the server, but it seems like another reason the population is declining. I had a very good time on here, but at the end it just became boring. I have never missed the server after leaving. This was also after the "golden" days, which imo were the days when there were 30 people online most of the time.

The people that left were great and cant be replaced, but the server is not dead. I am NOT coming back, but if you want to "save" the server, you have to increase the amount of members. Since none of the old people are coming back you will have to get new people, though this will not feel the same as before, the generation of server members I belonged to is close to gone. Advertise on forums, idc, get new people, make them feel at home, make them get new people. Create a new generation.
Wipe mcstats if you have to, to encourage new people.

I mighht be wrong though, no idea, havent been here for months.

Well I was talking to Zombie yesterday and he agreed with me that possibly the only way to recreate our large player base would be to employ all the same advertising techniques that Rigby did at one point. During that time the server had 64 slots and it was completely filled up and you couldn't connect. We even had to bump the slots up to 80.
Even though this is advertising to new members it will bring in enough players for the older members to come back and for the community to start flowing again.

Now, the downside of this is that it was very expensive. Donations have sort of halted and I don't know how much the server had left in credit but if we start building up to it players will come and they will donate.

I think this should be considered as it did work amazingly.

There are also cheaper means of advertising. I mean it can be harder and it will take a lot of work but I think just going out a spreading the word to friends and such can bring in a lot of people. Also I think the build projects may have sapped the players a bit at some point. I remember when everyone just wanted to build and people were getting in trouble and causing problems just to get on the build team. So maybe halting that or just finishing up a bit of it would be good. Or we could go back to the original map

Well, one thing 1ce said, and I agree is no advertising until the map is changed over.

Yeah that makes since not to push for new people before the switch over. But will the server survive until then? Lol jk. I know it will still be there. Too many people that care a lot about it for something as stupid as low interest levels to bring it down  :D

Lets hope the server survives until then.  I don't know any real numbers but I could guess we have an average of 0-1 people on the server most times.

I'd estimate 3-4 players at any given time, per server.

PS if you want to speed up the process, you could try to be a builder, or if you get rejected, practice until you get better and can be a builder...

actually. Everyday I come on to the pvp server, hoping there will be lots of friends to play with. Unfortunately, this is not the case...
Now I do my mining and training, all...alone...

We need more people...
the only times that I think are the best are definitely the holidays.
Heaps of people come on, having fun...

I miss those days
The days of 10 people trying to kill Mio or Paradox offering sacrifices
And having to keep battling and killing as much as possible

I cry in thought of these wonderful things, now gone...
We need everyone to come back.
Nothing is new, apart from Johto.

Im sorry to admit this but there is no real way to solve this dilemma but by getting the server larger or getting rid of the other servers which would make more people quit Craft you just have to deal with that the server not willing to admit it its in a crisis people just rant having as much fun, but I do have to say myself it is nice for a change not getting on the computer straight after school and playing on it till 10 at night there is other stuff you can do then play on the server Ive lost 28 pounds so far since I left the server gained some muscle doing better at school (but in history cause Sharkey is a fucking BITCH!) you can hope or post here all you want but it isn't gonna solve the dilemma

I hate to admit it, but duckox is right, ever since it's been up, it just demolished the servers. The golden days ARE over, and we HAVE moved on. If only we had another fresh start, and had our old community back. If you try to look back, there probably isn't a lot of memory of what it was like back then, at least I don't. All I have are bits and pieces that I can't put back together. But other than that, I will still believe in the server and play on it still. I hope others will join my cause to bring the server back up to it's old days and get our community back.

Thank you for reading

I agree with the reset because of:

I agree with the reset because of:
  • OP players. When I joined the PVP server, I saw all these huge stats and knew it'd be close to impossible to passing them. I gave up my hope, and soon quit the PVP server

When I first joined I managed to past some of the people with huge stats in some stats, in a year and some people have levels that already went over the maximum power the stats can be. Also its not all about levels, you can still be good if you have good skills at stuff.

But it's really really hard.

And if you look at the playerbase, there's characteristics to why we stayed and why they left that are different.

No matter how good you are, 4 hits from an unarmed veteran and you're dead, whereas the untrained player would need to deal 5 times as many hits to do the same damage. Hit blindly and it wont be hard to kill someone.

You have a valid point but the people that got those stats worked for it. All the recent complaints on the topic seem to state that the current people with the huge stats/balances/etc. didn't face the same hardships the newer player of today do.  Those who are now considered 'old players' weren't always. When I joined everyone around me had heaps of great gear and stats at I couldn't match up to but I continued on training and such where I could until I got to where I am today. Yes, it's hard and can be seen as unfair but the people who have these great stats worked for them under similar conditions to the new players of today.

I'm just saying that when a player looks at the McMmo stats, many of them probably feel they are astronomical, and don't even give it a shot. Then they leave, and never return.

Then we don't want them here. Sorry but we all went through the same struggles as they will (well maybe not Tene...). Personally it isn't fair for the vets to do anything to the stats. Sure most of them would stay and the newer players would have a chance but honestly the vets will super train and be right back up to reasonably high stats within a month or so. Just sayin...

What if we
1) Waited until the maps were done
2) Reset
3) Advertise
Then everyone trains at about the same time, so at least they go on the server.

As KJ said "It took me a year...". Players don't want that, at least make everyone somewhat-close.

I see we have found the root of the problem. It seems to be the problem with most societies today. That is that people want something for nothing. Interesting. So because you are starting a game years after someone else they must be set back to zero because you don't want to try so hard to be better than them. Is that it? I mean yeah I like getting stuff super easy but in this case I just don't see the logic. I mean if you aren't willing to put the effort into the game now to get your stats up what says you are going to try once everything is reset? The people with high stats don't have them because they have been on longer. They have them because they are committed to the game and want to be the very best! Now call me crazy but I think the problem here is just a huge bout of laziness. I mean I am seeing lots of people playing on the server now. Why would we want to start completely over as a community? I vote we get the new maps done. Clear out all the inactive player stats and advertise. The people will come regardless of the other players stats if they really want to play. We don't want players that want a free ride. We are looking for dedicated players who don't fuss about having to do lots of training to be the best!

If any of you are offended...TO BAD! I don't care because I don't want to hear all the whining about people being too strong. You didn't have to deal with all the people who used donating to get stats. Do you even know what a roll back is? You all just need to suck it up, find a friend, and get training!
