Should we (don't go crazy here, let's all be logical...) delete all of Kanto and rebuild it in the design of SoulSilver?
This has been tossed up a few times, I simply shot it down because I didn't want to spend more time building, and I think Cinnabar looks like a turd.
However, time allocation aside, has anyone noticed on http://tiny.cc/pokebuild (http://tiny.cc/pokebuild) aka http://play.pokemonserver.net:8126 (http://play.pokemonserver.net:8126) that the cities and routes for Johto are regioned in a very noticable pattern? Same with Sinnoh? DS games introduced a new way of measuring areas, which makes the areas much easier to scale and recognize errors in. It also has a more 'modern' color/texture scheme, like Johto currently does.
I understand that this would take time, though not everything would need to be redone, a lot would. We used FireRed because the AdvanceMap program helped us do it the easy way, using pictures. But shouldn't we do things the right way now that we know what we're doing, and have a more up-to-date basis to work off of?
It would also remove the "Kanto Pokemon League vs Johto Pokemon League" conundrum we are looking at now, with Kanto's being done, and Johto's only having a building started-when they are technically the same place in the games, for every version including Johto.
It would also give us a chance to fix the "pixelmon spawning inside a tree" issue that is rampant with our current tree design. (Which only exists in Kanto as far as I know)
Obviously Sevii would remain untouched, as it was a FireRed-only add-on. There was never an old vs new argument there, it simply exists in one form.
The Pal Park will have to be done by someone else, because I don't have an ActionReplay or a DS that can 'migrate' pokemon from an Advance Game.
Discuss, whether you're a Kanto/Johto builder, tourist, or builder in another region. Try not to use the argument "it would take a long time."
Everyone already knows that. This whole 5-region bonanza has recently passed the 1-year mark.

I think we need to look at who we're appealing to though. With the new map people will be able to pick their favourite region to start in and Kanto fans like Kanto because it was either their favourite game or they grew up with it. They're going to want to explore the Kanto from the Kanto game and re-live all the moments not be stuck with the Kanto from the Johto games.
I for one can relate to this. If I was new and went exploring I'd like to be hit with all the nostalgia and visit memorable places like the safari zone or Cinnabar island from the game that I wanted to see.
-
Go for it, whilst the regions are being built I've never actually seen them built this fast. (EG: Sinnoh & Hoenn)
It would be sad to see, but if it fixes all problems then go the hell for it mate. :D
-
I'm not going to say delete the current one, keep it but move it somewhere else, and have that as a GenIII Kanto.
-
I'm all for it. I'll get my soul silver game and apply for builder to help :D
-
I agree with Tene, give them the option of Gen II or the remakes. Gen II would be purely aesthetic while the remake would be part of the gym system and work as 1ce said.
Edit: Would this also mean New Bark Town would be the new spawn?

^
Anyway, im all in for it, its was never a bad idea to start with, it can be build if everyone is really confident building it from rock bottom.
...And it will be way faster if more builders who actually build...
-
If it takes too long, I suggest we first release how the kanto is now, then after that, complete the HG and SS map. And I would love to start building this.
-
I agree that we do this, and are we releasing Kalos along with all of the other 5 regions, or will that be built afterwards?

After.

So when you have a house in kanto it'll suddenly cease to exist to make way for an update kanto.
An idea I literally just had, GenIII Kanto can have the gyms filled with actual puzzles from the game, perhaps with a reward at the end of some kind, or parkour challenges, everyone seems to want those, but they're banned from gyms.
-
Oh, wanna ask if the the scaling of Red/Blue map of kanto is as same as HS/SS kanto? If it is, it would be way easier since we dont have to completly build the map from start and just touch up everything around on the current map.
-
Its different, Cinnabar is a prime example of that.
I'm lingering on tene's idea.

(Prod, its gen3. gen2 is nasty GBC version with no detail)
And while we're on the subject of
Edit: Would this also mean New Bark Town would be the new spawn?
No, the new spawn would let you choose your starting region.
So in the split-the-current-one-off idea, they would say "kanto" and get the current FireRed version map as their starting map.
Or they would say "Johto" and get New Bark Town, with the SS kanto adjoined to it. At least in my fantasy of the SS rebuild of it anyway.
However, only 1 region would start out populated with gym leaders. We wouldn't allow 2 in sinnoh, 1 in hoenn, 3 in johto, and 1 in kanto.
-
Now the big question, what will happen to the current state of the map on the pixelmon server?
-
Shhhh thats not Kanto related

But its only Kanto :o

I vote yes

I like Tene's idea.
Also what if the old map stayed in a different location as like a donation perk? The gyms could have set courses with the parkour and such. Just an idea.

Its already been moved 'out of the way' and not sure what will be put in the gyms, but I also thought 'fun' puzzles, whatever they may be.

We could do something similar to the pixelmon spawn area for the PVP server as well. We can have all of the rules in the spawn area where the new player can choose Johto or Kanto. This means we don't have to clutter the Professor's Labs with rules.

I rmb 1ce saying to do something like that once, yeah probably we would...

Its actually there now.

We need to have an admin meeting to discuss all this .-.

I remember once upon a time I had suggested the very idea of spawning elsewhere for rules. It seems to be a recurring idea round these parts...
-
Yea it is lol I've had the same idea in my head before to lol

Would spawning people by the rules really do anything? On the pixelmon server people usually run through the tutorial and read little to nothing already. Would it be any different?

I joined a server where the rules were in a long strip of cobwebs, so you had to go through slowly and read them. Needing the rules for later reference could just be done with /rules or having them in another place.
Another option would be having a secret word hidden in them somewhere that is needed to progress.

I think I'd just leave autowalk on if I had to walk through a line of cobweb...
People would give out the 'secret' word.

And look how far we've come since.
RIP Gen3 Kanto
Welcome Gen4 Kanto
Welcome to Japan Gen4 Kanto

I probably wouldn't be a builder if this had never happened.
