Seems as though I'm unable to connect to minecraft.net. Again. Is anyone else having this problem?

I am having this problem AND the solution is play from Minecraft.net it works from browser.

What is all this "spout" and "modded clients" with "chest finder" and "minimap" and "aimbot" and "different chat" and "optifine" I keep hearing about.
 
Am I missing out on some good things that might IMPROVE my minecraft XPerience?!

Spout improves the experience on some servers. Optifine is meant to give better control over your settings. Minimaps are their own mod i'm pretty sure. Um, spout is modded i think.

Apparently, Jeb or the Bukkit team brought down the login-check servers, hence causing it to say "Failed to verify username!". No need to be alarmed that you are hacked, you are not.
