Title: Disc Drive Vs No Disc Drive
Post by: ArchieSalt on June 21, 2012, 01:42:12 pm
Title is pretty straight forward. Do you think most computers still need Disc Drives and why. If you dont think they need them. Say why.
Im personally against disc drives as i think its time we moved on to more modern and smaller means of storage

Dics drives are still needed. Software developer find it mush easier to put their data on a dics for purchase reather than a USB. $.25 vs $15 is a big difference. Also on the other hand there is digital downloads but in this case many consumers find it more comforting to have an atual copy of their software when compared to only having an online program SAY they have it. And do not forget Blu Rays.

I still think that with things like Blu-ray, there is potential to minimize the size of discs to make storage more convenient. Eg. Use the gamecube size discs to store data.

Theres those psp UMDs. If I buy something, I usually want physical proof of ownership. Its the reason any music I buy is in CD format

Lol. Of course there are all these new computers coming out that dont even have a disc drive so maybe it is where we will be going in the future. But for now, not going anywhere.

Internet isn't free so not everyone has it. <--- #1 Reason and only reason that matters.

The Internet is free. The only payment involved comes from the cost of the service being provided to supply your home, business, etc. with the Internet. The Internet itself is free.

If you have enough energy to run a computer, then I don't think the energy required to access the internet is much of an issue.
