If your gym is the same gosh darn thing that goes on and on forever, then I would suggest making your gym shorter and more creative. Boring your enemy into giving up is not a good thing. Seriously, people expect gyms and gym battles to be awesome, but everyone puts in lame jump puzzles (that do no damage with a decent acrobatics skill), or a monochrome maze in the dark that is incredibly boring.
Fuchsia Gym starts off with 4 lava blocks outlining a 3 x 3 square and a sign that says 'Pick your Poison.' You turn to the left though and you see Koga watching you struggle in a well-lit and safe room (he watches you the entire way on an easy route as if to taunt you) with a hole in the floor. The theme continues with the dreaded 'lava-ladders' where you must master a skill 99% of minecraft players have never used before (shifting to cross ladders horizontally). The gym gets a lot easier after that to give players a break, but still gives them a couple of challenges that test their skill slightly while simultaneously testing their knowledge of soulsand and wooden pressure plates. Also signs to mess with their heads as the go. Finally you reach the end and granted a choice between a ranged combat arena and a melee one. The choice has a twist involved, but then you finally get to fight.
That is what a gym should be like: a grab bag of various challenges that chip away at (but hopefully do not kill) the player to soften them up before the big fight.
