Well this is my idea: Riolu, Sneasel, and Rufflet. Riolu is good against the Dark type Sneasel, Sneasel is also an Ice type so hes good against Rufflet, whos a flying type, and Rufflet, is good against Riolu, who is a Fighting type :)

Why not get have the starters as 3 eggs that will hatch into a random pokemon after 5 steps.

Hes stuck in 3rd gen, he can't use any pokemon outside of Advance Games.
