Post by: Tenebrae on July 29, 2013, 01:47:38 pm
Just saw this: http://www.theonion.com/video/braindead-teen-only-capable-of-rolling-eyes-and-te,27225/ (http://www.theonion.com/video/braindead-teen-only-capable-of-rolling-eyes-and-te,27225/)

Can you explain the context of these videos? I don't really know what debate you're proposing. I'm not Australian so I don't really know what either of these are promoting.

They were from a small segment in a TV show that had two companies produce ads trying to sell the unsellable. In this case, they were creating ads to campaign compulsory euthanasia for anyone over the age of 80.

These ads are promoting compulsory euthanasia for people over 80 in Australia.  This is because of overpopulation and limited resources such as food.  I don't agree with it (it sounds like something from The Giver, a book I read.  After a certain age, people were "released," which is basically euthanasia under a more pleasant name).

led, the U.S. euthanizes pets. it really is similar, but they're humans instead of dogs or cats.  I disagree with compulsory euthanasia for people over 80, but if someone requests it, I think you should be able to have it as an option for a very severe and painful disease that doesn't kill but makes it impossible for someone to enjoy life.

You do understand this ad is just a joke, and doesn't represent the actual truth, right? ._.

The gruen transfer ads weren't jokes, they're meant to be serious. Although we can't help laughing at them :p

I know that, it's just that some people think that Australians are ACTUALLY doing this. -.-

People in Oregon do it (with consent from the person, of course)
