Title: Starting somewhere else
Post by: Duckox on August 03, 2013, 09:51:17 am
Too many new users start in pallet town and go downstairs and straight to route 1. It's a problem, because then they start asking questions later on which would all be answered if they just read the signs.
I've been to a few servers where you start somewhere different to spawn, and once you read all rules, you can get the standard rank from a sign, which will allow you to go to spawn. This server needs that.
At the start of a pokemon game, you will be asked a bunch of questions, there ought to be the similar kind of thing on this server.
You could start in some blank area, and have messages come up in chat and then afterwards, after being forced to read the rules, get the trainer rank and be able to go to spawn.

Plan on what you'd see:
Professor Oak telling you the rules, etc. (That's the main reason)
(Optional)Asked if you were a boy or a girl. (And get a blue or pink [Trainer] prefix depending on which you are)
Asked your name (Obviously you'd have an IGN, but this could be a free version of /pokenick for the first time.

Not only would this somewhat be more realistic, but stop people from asking random questions later on. I have been pissed off to the limit, and I'm completely tired of telling new users that there are no pokemon.

Wouldn't everyone go for the pink prefix? Pink is the shit!!

I think the tutorial is coming in kanto 3.0.

I don't agree with the question thing.  I've been on servers that do that and those questions are just annoying.  But we should start it out at Oak's lab and do all of that stuff.  I'm sick and tired of noobs that think they know everything about minecraft asking "were iz da pokemans? dis in't a pokeman server without pokemans!"  This gets annoying when almost every single noob logs in and asks that.  So I agree that we should put the starting point near the rule place and make spawn and the starting point separate.

The only way to "make" people read the rules is to make them go through a rules maze. This was suggested and was voted down by the admins. Starting people in oaks lab won't be any more effective than where you start now.

If they don't read the rules, then I doubt they're going to be playing for a long time, lots of people log on and play for 20 minutes, then never get on the server again.

I liked the rules maze idea. Came up a long time ago but never stuck. Who knows maybe someday it will...

I agree...
WAIT :progress:

Maybe someone should just make a poll like that and have people vote on it.

Well, you know how Pixelmon has people start off in whatever place that is where all the rules are before you go to the map? They don't read those either. They just run to the end.

I really don't want the admins to do this because I've been in a server that does this and I hate it, but I think we need to do one of those rule quizzes.  No one and I mean NO ONE reads the rules anymore and they just ask people about absolutely everything (I would know; they think DragonTamer or Gambler is an admin sometimes).  We need some type of quiz or something that keeps people from moving on unless they read all of the rules.
