Today I was looking on reddit (very scientific, I know) and I saw this post. I clicked the link to this video and it amazed me that this could happen. So doctors genetically modified a strain of the HIV virus that infected T-cells (immune cells) with a certain piece of DNA. This DNA, like any other viral DNA, comes into the nucleus and becomes part of the genetic sequence of the cell. Well, this DNA "programmed" the T-cells into hyperactive tumor killers. A girl was dying of leukemia and they introduced this virus into her bloodstream. After a few days of some bad effects (fever, almost dying, heavy breathing), her fever suddenly got better and those T-cells started to combat her cancer like they never did before. Here's the video for it:

As if I'd believe that then I'd give it to my aunt -.-

1 step closer to the cure of cancer, fellow reddit lurker.

"Trust me dad, one dose of HIV and you'll be home free."

some of you (zob) didn't watch the video. They genetically modified the HIV virus so that it DOESN'T kill immune cells, only modifies (programs) them to become immune cells that kill the virus. They took out the code in the HIV's DNA that makes cells replicate it and replaced it with something that boosts the immune power of the cells. And look at that girl in the video. She had a terminal cancer and was going to die very soon and then they injected her with that virus. Now she's alive, healthy, and cancer-free. The sickness she got was her immune system going into overdrive to defeat the cancer and it worked.

If I wanted to watch the video I would have said. Alas, I was playing Cookie Clicker.

If you are going to ignore the content of the topic, don't write posts that we should all ignore anyway, all you do is waste our time by doing so.
Most annoying thing I see in life is uneducated people giving an opinion on things they don't even care enough about to learn from.

Simple, I hate Science.

Simple, I hate Science.
So you'd rather dance around a fire chanting to an imaginary being to cure disease rather than finding the real cause?

Earlier this year I did a mini project on something similar to this based off an article I read. Essentially any virus can be used to kill cancer as what they do is kill cells and cancer is mutated cells.

MY friend Zach is addicted to Reedit so that explains why he came into school today talking about it
