Title: SERVER LIVE MAP
Post by: MasterAssassin82 on March 23, 2012, 02:47:26 pm
Hey I was wondering if we could add a LIVE MAP to the server? Here's an example of how it looks:

what do you think? There is also a Low-res one for less lag

I was thinking about this too. Imagine those poor people who live in the wild. Anyone browsing the map would be able to see their location and raid/grief their hideout. Unless the map were to not show players...

And what about the in game map? :D

Well I used to make regular renders of our overhead map, but ever since the 3x expansion of the boundary, my mapper couldn't handle the size of the map.

In addition, the Y-value expansion has completely broken my mapper, Cartograph G, so I can't even render small maps anymore without getting UPC-Code-looking jargon.

If anyone knows of a good mapper for gigantic maps, let me know, and I'll happily use it and post the picture. I'll even throw in city/common location labels for free.

The last server i played on had a pretty good live map. It had support for multiple worlds, and for infinite maps too. Not sure what the name of it was tho :/ I could ask tho

Well if you're talking about a live map that updates as players use it on the server, we did have Dynamic Map for a while (literally doubling the file count I had to backup I might add) and I don't know why it was removed, might have been due to lag or the fact that it only loaded certain chunks and didn't have a smooth transition (aka it had giant chunk-sized holes) between one area and another. It also showed players, but I'm pretty sure that's config-based.

I really like this. Also the number of people who keep asking me if they can just SEE Unova is quite annoying at times  :D

maybe a map that just showed the parts u allowed it to show (parts in regions), other parts would be black?
also, it could just show an overhead view without player loacations if that makes too much lag

It would certainly be nice to see all that current and previous members have build...

Dynmap allows you to hide player positions, and only load specific places:
