Kanto was based off the real Kanto region in Japan. Unova was based off somewhere in America. Johto was also based off somewhere in Japan. As were Hoenn and Sinnoh too I believe.

The graphics look cool, I still won't be able to play, and I still think the new Pokemon are ugly. I think I have found one source of ugliness in the newer Pokemon, starting in Sinnoh. If you look, most of the Pokemon have the exact same eyes. Black, with white pupils. They should get more creative on the facial features, as well as the overall design.

Kanto was based of the Kanto region (around where Tokyo (Saffron city) is.)
Johto is the area next to it (where Osaka (Goldenrod city) and Kyoto (Ecruteak town)are).
Hoenn is the south island (I believe Petalburg is based off Fukouyoka (can't spell it))
Sinnoh is the northern island.
Unova is New York.

I am also SO disappointed in that they aren't making RSE remakes [or even a colosseum esque game], but at the same time I need it. now.
